April Cooke-Mackey was born and raised on Saltspring Island. After graduating from high school she moved to Victoria B.C, where she stayed for the next eight years. In Victoria , she studied fine arts at the Victoria College of Art, graduating with a Three Year Diploma in the fall of 2011.
In life, her obsession with the every day objects of mass consumerism and their context in Pop-Art, inform her work, as does her own silly, random humor, like the dad jokes that make you laugh and shake your head. That being said, she encourages the viewer to find their own viewpoint and relationship with her work. .
In her studies, she was most inspired by the work of Wayneher own.Thiebaud, John Bratby, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol and Nicola Wheston. With these influences as a base, she has found an ever-growing style of her own, playing with color, pattern design, depth and line.
Since the spring of 2015 she has made Vancouver her home. working from her studio at home, and attending the occasional course at Emily Carr University.
